Series 2
In this series, Ansei Uchima continued his exploration of abstraction, further refining his fusion of traditional Japanese woodblock techniques with modernist sensibilities. His works from this period often featured more dynamic compositions, with layered shapes and washes of color that created a sense of depth and fluidity. Uchima’s use of negative space and subtle tonal variations evoked natural landscapes and atmospheric moods, while his increasingly gestural approach reflected the influence of Western abstraction. This period marked a deepening of his artistic voice, as he pushed the boundaries of woodblock printing to create evocative, lyrical compositions.
